New York Home Inspection

The New York State Division of Licensing Services regulates real estate inspectors and home inspection services in Rochester and all of NY. Those offering real estate inspection services must be certified and licensed by the NY licensing office. Check here for other New York home inspectors. The board has identified three categories of real estate inspectors.

State Licensed Real Estate Inspectors must have completed 2,000 hours of experience over a period of at least 24 months. 1,500 hours of that experience must be from inspections of residential properties.

State Certified Residential Inspectors (Home Inspection) must include 2,500 hours of inspections of residential properties. Residential experience must contain experience in single family (including single co-op or condo), two-four family, or other residential experience (vacant lot/farm). There are additional licensing requirements.

State Certified General Inspectors must have 1000 hours of experience on inspections of general properties. General experience must contain experience in multi-family, commercial/industrial, or other (land/manufacturing/institutional).
